The executive governor of Imo State, His Excellency Senator Hope Uzodinma has extolled Imo state youths who recently graduated in the first batch of the 5,000 trainees of the Skill-Up Imo Project for their hard work and resilience which the governor described as the true spirit of Ndigbo. Giving out 2, 500 laptops and other start-up kits to the new graduands, Governor Uzodinma reiterated his belief that acquisition of Digital Skill is one good way to consolidate real and modern literacy among the young-adults of Imo State. Emphasizing that today’s world is driven by digital technology and skills, the governor while speaking at the ceremony at the Landmark Event Centre, in Owerri hinged the Skill-Up Imo project on three pillars namely, Technology, Opportunity and Equipment.

The Imo State Ministry of Digital Economy and E-government recently graduated the first batch of 5,000 trainees of the Skill-Up Imo Project. The graduands who received training in various digital programmes went home with brand new laptops and other start-up kits.
The ceremony which had Nigeria’s Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Ali Pantami in attendance, witnessed a massive turnout of youths, the academia and industry players.
The Minister thanked Governor Uzodimma for providing the youths of Imo State with the vital trainings they would require to compete favourably in today’s employment market both at the local and international levels.
Describing Uzodinma as the “Digital Governor”, Dr. Pantami said: “Looking at the project being taught here, it is a clear indication that graduands from this programme are not only going to be employed in Nigeria, but could find job opportunities anywhere in the world. This is what is called creative thinking”.
Dr. Chimezie Amadi, Imo State Commissioner for Digital Economy and E-government, in his address narrated how Governor Uzodimma provided funds and daily meals for the trainees all through the programme.
Dr. Amadi disclosed that Imo youths are now receiving training ranging from digital marketing, web design, contents creation, data analysis and graphics designing to phone and digital devices repairs, programming, cyber security, and much more. “Your Excellency we have recorded inspiring success stories, ranging from graduands plugging to employment opportunities and launching new start-up ventures which are proffering digital solutions to social and environmental challenges”, Dr. Amadi sssured Governor Uzodimma.
